Serengeti National Park, located in Tanzania, is one of the world's most celebrated wilderness areas and is known for its vast and stunning landscapes and its large and diverse wildlife populations. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, the Serengeti encompasses approximately 14,763 square kilometers (5,700 square miles) and stretches north to Kenya and borders Lake Victoria to the west.
